In the New York Post today, Ben Feuerherd and Sara Nathan, report on the bummer (not Bomber) Alex Rodriguez, whose rental car was vandalized, while he was having dinner with the ESPN crew after broadcasting a baseball game in San Francisco. Here’s the report:
Now he’s A-robbed!
Alex Rodriguez had a half-million dollars’ worth of jewelry and electronics stolen from his ESPN rental car in San Francisco while having a postgame dinner with the production crew, according to a report Monday.
A thief broke into the former Yankees slugger’s rental vehicle sometime between 9 and 11 p.m. Sunday while it was parked about three blocks from Oracle Park, the San Francisco Chronicle reported, citing law-enforcement sources.
The robber made off with Rodriguez’s camera, laptop, jewelry and a bag, according to the report.
A-Rod, who is engaged to Bronx singing star Jennifer Lopez, was in the California city to broadcast the Giants-Phillies game for ESPN.
ESPN had rented the black Nissan SUV for A-Rod and other members of the channel’s production team before it was broken into, the newspaper reported.
“It’s an unfortunate situation. We’re working with local authorities to address it,” ESPN said in a statement.
Rodriguez and several of his colleagues were getting dinner after the game when the thief struck, an ESPN official said Monday.
San Francisco police were treating the case as a “high priority,” according to the newspaper.
Burglary investigators were working the scene and collecting evidence from the vehicle overnight on Sunday and into Monday morning, according to the report.
A rep for A-Rod said the value of the items stolen was “grossly exaggerated” but would not provide a specific amount.
The former slugger, who retired from the Yankees in 2016 after a steroid scandal scared his career two years prior, was brought on by ESPN to provide color commentary for Sunday night baseball last year.
A-Rod celebrated his 44th birthday at his Miami home in late July — days after he gifted JLo a red Porsche at her extravagant 50th birthday bash in the city.
About 200 of Lopez and Rodriguez’s closest friends were treated to a caviar bar and buffet at JLo’s party, which happened at Gloria and Emilio Estefan’s Miami estate on Star Island, sources told
The Post at the time. Lopez, the star of upcoming “Hustlers,” wore a Versace dress to the gold-themed affair, which featured surprise performances by rapper Fat Joe, Ashanti and DJ Khaled.
